Why a Manual on Local Church? Our covenantal structures and practices make the United Church of Christ unique. Since its inception, the United Church of Christ has sought to clarify how we live out covenant in community. Today, The Manual on Local Church is part of this ongoing work to discern and define our structure so that we can engage more fully in our faithful witness in the world.

The Manual on Local Church is for all settings of the UCC to use, to fully live into their covenantal responsibilities and privileges under the Constitution of the United Church of Christ. It includes: an Introduction; the Congregational Code, a three-part covenantal framework centering Local Churches; Marks for Faithful and Vital Local Churches, designed to affirm and expand your ministry; Local Church Governance, practical tools for building and sustaining healthy leadership; Standing Support and Accountability, processes for Associations and Conferences in covenant with Local Churches, resources for new and affiliating Local Churches and resources for recognizing Local Church standing.
