What's a LISTEN UP! Bible Study, and why is it unique?
God's word is alive. God will always have something new to say to us. That's why the purpose of the LISTEN UP! Bible Study series is not simply learning information about the Bible. It is hearing God speak. There is a difference. In these Bible studies, you will be encouraged to listen: listen to the Bible, listen to your own questions and responses, and listen to the honest sharing among participants in your study group. Trusting in the power of the Holy Spirit, we believe that in that mix of biblical text, personal engagement, and honest speaking and listening, God's word may be heard, speaking words of challenge and words of comfort.

Job LISTEN UP! Bible Study
Job is one of the most-read books in the Hebrew Bible. Often assigned in secondary school and college literature classes, it is for many people the only book of the Bible they have read. Why Job? Because the story of Job is a thrilling, challenging, and compelling account of the spiritual transformation that’s possible as we find ourselves in between the falling apart of the old world and the building up of the new. What Kafka said about a good book seems especially apropos of Job: that a good book should be like an ice-pick to break up the frozen sea within us. Reader beware: Job is an ice-pick of a book.

This study is divided into six lessons:

  • Lesson 1: A Tale of Two Jobs (Job 1-3)
  • Lesson 2: Job and His Friends (Job 4-27, select verses)
  • Lesson 3: Wisdom in an Information Age (Job 28)
  • Lesson 4: Enter Elihu (Job 32-37)
  • Lesson 5: The Voice from the Whirlwind (Job 38-42:6)
  • Lesson 6: The Restoration (Job 42:7-17)

Leader's Guide included in this workbook.
