These Guatemalan artisan crafts are an income-generating project of Global Ministries partner, the Ecumenical Christian Council of Guatemala. The Council seeks to be an instrument of reflection and action. Through the work of the Council, mainline churches of Guatemala seek to be advocates for their nation’s life through the construction of peace and reconciliation and the promotion of better living conditions for the Guatemalan population in the current context. One priority for the Council is gender justice. The Council is working to eradicate violence, especially gender, and to empower women’s leadership and participation in decision-making spaces. The microcredit project of the Ecumenical Christian Council of Guatemala is one of the ways the Council is improving this area in society. The Council provides training and materials for women to begin weaving for income-generation and for artistic expression. Proceeds from these woven items will continue to support this project of the Ecumenical Christian Council of Guatemala.
